First Day on the Water!

With the first day of Sailing School under our belts we are looking forward to the rest of a nice sunny and potentially breezy first week of Sailing School. All classes went out sailing yesterday even with gusts of up to 25 knots of wind!
The Seamen class learned some new terminology, and every sailor got a chance at taking the helm! Opti C had an exciting first class, with a lot of swimming (and maybe
some capsizing). The 420 Race Team got off to a great start with sailors immediately in the trapeze harness while doing reaching races. The Opti B sailors looked like experts in the heavy winds as they set sail for their first day on the water.
For those of you wondering, swim tests will be given next week during sailing school on the most appropriate day of class.

There are a couple of announcements for the week.
There is an ice cream social being held today by the Junior Yacht Club at 4p.m.
This Friday there will be a meeting for all sailing school parents at 4 p.m.
This weekend there will be normal series racing on Saturday, 9 a.m. for the Junior racing and 1 p.m for the senior racing. On Sunday there will be a special Fourth of July series! The junior racing will commence at 9 a.m., Laser racing at 10 a.m. and Senior racing at 1 p.m. I hope to see everyone decked out in there red, white, and blue ready to race!
Mark your calendars because Ken Reed, world-renowned ocean racer is coming to the yacht club next Friday, July 9th, for a special presentation concerning his race across the atlantic ocean. Look for more information at the club and online!
