First Day on the Water!

With the first day of Sailing School under our belts we are looking forward to the rest of a nice sunny and potentially breezy first week of Sailing School. All classes went out sailing yesterday even with gusts of up to 25 knots of wind!
The Seamen class learned some new terminology, and every sailor got a chance at taking the helm! Opti C had an exciting first class, with a lot of swimming (and maybe
some capsizing). The 420 Race Team got off to a great start with sailors immediately in the trapeze harness while doing reaching races. The Opti B sailors looked like experts in the heavy winds as they set sail for their first day on the water.
For those of you wondering, swim tests will be given next week during sailing school on the most appropriate day of class.

There are a couple of announcements for the week.
There is an ice cream social being held today by the Junior Yacht Club at 4p.m.
This Friday there will be a meeting for all sailing school parents at 4 p.m.
This weekend there will be normal series racing on Saturday, 9 a.m. for the Junior racing and 1 p.m for the senior racing. On Sunday there will be a special Fourth of July series! The junior racing will commence at 9 a.m., Laser racing at 10 a.m. and Senior racing at 1 p.m. I hope to see everyone decked out in there red, white, and blue ready to race!
Mark your calendars because Ken Reed, world-renowned ocean racer is coming to the yacht club next Friday, July 9th, for a special presentation concerning his race across the atlantic ocean. Look for more information at the club and online!

Work Week

After 4 days of hard labor, working in the hot sun, the club and fleet are finally ready to go! With the help of the senior instructors we gave the 420 and Hunter fleets extreme-makeovers. Not only were the boats fitted with new parts and lines, but their hulls were compounded and waxed to perfection. The docks were given a little TLC as well, they have been power-washed, as well as carpet replaced and cradles repaired.
In other news, the sail shed has a floor! With 40 years of old sails, and rusted out boat parts disposed of the shed can now be used
for its main purpose, stowing working sails. Let's cross our fingers and hope it stays this way!

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Opening Luncheon this Saturday at 1200. We will have some announcements posted on the Bulletin Board next to the office, so be sure to check those out! See you on the water!

Summer Has Begun!

Hello to the Stone Horse Yacht Club Community!

It's that time of year again, when we stretch out our sea-legs, brush the cobwebs off of our boats and set sail for the summer!

I am starting this blog with the intentions of keeping members and friends of the Stone Horse community updated on the happenings of the club. Here I will post about weekly Sailing School events, regatta results which our young racers attend, as well as upcoming events at the club. I am quite ambitious now, and hope to include pictures and stories from around the club. I also encourage you to e-mail me if there is any information you would like to share on this blog.

Here's to a great summer!
Best,
Sally Evans
